still talking about models and modeling… being an anrogynous model represents a form of beauty that isn’t always celebrated in mainstream media, magazines or runways. the only well known androgynous models i know are Jenny Shimizu, (and i think she was best known 2 have been romantically connected to angelina jolie) and Kisha Batista (she was in the documentary the Aggressives but her alleged relationship with Kimora Lee Simmons preceded any talk of a modeling career). not a great list. so y’all studs need 2 step it up a bit. having said that, the doors are cracked but need 2 b kicked the f#@$ down. our very own, Milon is already doing it. so what about the rest? here’s a list of steps that one could take in order 2 be a full blown androgynous model. steps taken from my own personal conversations with models and some research that i was asked 2 do.

STEP 1: do your research. like any job, modeling requires knowledge. this is especially true if u’r tryin’ to be a certain “type” of model. read as many books as u can. u can start with Milon’s Stud Modeling 101 coming out soon.

STEP 2: take a modeling class and/or find a mentor.u need 2 know how 2 walk, pose and stand. and now-a-days speaking might be required. models don’t just do still photographs. they do television commercials too.

STEP 3: get a makeover to look the part. get that ‘hurr did’. fix them eyebrows. update the wardrobe. if u got skin “issues” clear them up. hit the gym. it’s easier to work with people that need as little photoshop as possible. while Hard Candy Wall Calendar has no physical requirements and works with real womyn of all shapes and sizes, the “real world” is a whole lot less forgiving.

STEP 4: set up a portfolio. this book should have pictures of you posing in different ways. your portfolio will b your visual resume. a comp card is also a must for anyone considering a serious modeling career. I will discuss in detail in a later post.

STEP 5: get an agent. this is something that i’ve only read about. but i’ve seen plenty of people get pretty far without one.

STEP 6: go 2 open calls at modeling agencies 2 learn if u have potential. but even if they say u don’t (which they will 2 many stud models), keep going. u can get lots of tips and ideas from the pros.

STEP 7: sign up with a reputable modeling website that will get u noticed.

STEP 8: model. model. model. walk as many runways. take as many pictures as u can. get that experience. build up that resume. get your name and face out there.

as an androgynous model, u will face hurdles that no other model will face. your unique image is not something that everyone can handle. the key is to present yourself in a way that says “i can’t b put in a box and that is what makes me beautiful.”

Today’s modeling topic is POSING. everybody knows that the #1 thing a model does is pose. but what everyone does NOT know is that shit isn’t as easy as it looks. looks are important but u wouldn’t believe how many good lookin’ people don’t know how to look good on camera.

when i started this calendar project 6 years ago, there wasn’t a single stud model to speak of. now i see them everywhere. mostly on the internet but i don’t doubt that i’ll see them in magazines, billboards etc in no time. so i thought i’d give some pointers to all the young stud models breakin’ into the biz.

now b4 i go on, i have 2 preface everything that i say this week about modeling is coming from the point of view of a photographer (me). i am not a model. what i do is observe and record what i c. i c things that the models doesn’t. and having said that, i have compiled a list of posing do’s and don’ts based on my experiences behind the camera:

STUD POSES DO’S AND DON’TS

DO be mindful of the lighting. if there’s a bright light on your left, don’t turn your head to the right. i know u think that’s your good side but if your good side is in the shadows, no one will see how good it is.

DON’T: tilt your head too much in any one direction. it can make you look like your neck is broken or catch an unpleasant “up your nose” shot. tilting too far down makes your chin disappear.

DO: use magazines for inspiration when learning to pose. i honestly don’t see too many “club squats” in GQ. so if that’s your first urge when the camera is pointed at u, think twice. k?

DON’T: refer to pop stars as modeling role models. they are not models. some are great in pictures and all but seriously, if i get one mo’ stud imitating Uncle L.L. lickin her lips repeatedly i’m gon scream. stop it. besides, it’s a still picture not video. when i catch u in mid-lick it looks crazy.

DO: practice posing in front of a mirror to be comfortable with your body and learn what feels natural.

DON’T: be rigid and uncomfortable–it will show on camera.

DO: fake it. some people say that u shouldn’t but i disagree in this instance. fake it until u make it, i say. if u’r feeling self conscious in front of the camera, pretend that u’r not until the confidence comes. and it will with practice.

DO: learn how to experiment. even if you think the pose won’t look good, try it out anyway and find out for yourself. variety, variety, variety. whatever ‘new’ pose u come up with just might turn out 2 b your signature piece that makes u stand out from the rest.

DO:practice facial expressions in front of the mirror in addition to posing your body. get your Zoolander on! lol seriously. i know the whole Zoolander thing is a bit of a joke but i notice that everyone has one whether they know it or not. everyone falls into that one expression in front of the camera. and that’s ok, if it’s a good expression. try other expressions. think of moods. being a model is very much like being an actor. u have 2 create moods and feelings. try happy, sad, mischievous, mysterious, pensive… everything can’t b sexy. or can it? ;) and even if u r doing your “sexy” look makes sure it truly is sexy. Sometimes it comes across as mean or for some: blank.

DO: practice posing with another model or looking at magazines to get inspiration for how to interact with one or more models, male, femmes and other studs. I will go into more depth on posing with another later.

DON’T: ignore the small stuff. pay attention to your hands, fingers, feet and toes when posing. doing weird stuff with them can ruin an otherwise great pose.

DOlearn how to extend your neck when appropriate to prevent it from looking short and stumpy. also learn how to create nice lines using your arms and legs.

DON’T: only learn how to pose standing up. It is important to know how to pose while sitting down, crouching, running, jumping, walking, lying down, etc.

DON’T:go overboard with posing or feel you need to do a completely different pose every time the camera takes a picture. many times simple changes to existing poses is more than enough. example, your body is perfect but your hand is in your pocket. instead of moving everything. just take the hand out of the pocket. then in the next shot, change the direction of your eyes.

DON’Tdo poses that make you look short, stubby, or appear that you’re missing limbs. be aware of your appendages when you do a pose that involves being seated or call for you to crouch. i have yet to photograph a really tall stud. so make the most of what u got. extend!

DO: learn how to be completely at home in front of the camera. in fact, find a photographer that u like 2 work with and work with them as much as possible. Then..

DO work with your photographer to create the appropriate poses for each modeling gig. it is actually a part of my job to pose u. some models require a lot of help. some don’t. don’t feel bad if u do. sometimes i get real quiet because i’m working with the technical side of the photograph. if u need feedback. speak up. not just with me but any photographer. but….

DON’T expect the photographer to tell you how to pose or direct you for every single shot. It is up to you to create that flow. the photographer will assist you when needed but don’t expect them to show you how to do your job.

DO learn how to do and hold difficult poses. With practice you’ll be able to pose in an unnatural way but make it come across as natural in front of the camera.

DON’T: do stupid Myspace poses or poses that you’d do if you and your friends were clowning around with a camera. If you’re going to be a model then you’ll have to pose like one (but that doesn’t mean you can’t have fun). see, note above re: squatting. don’t throw up the deuces, the middle finger or …heaven forbid, a gang sign.

DO: have fun with your poses. don’t be afraid to laugh, smile, or act goofy (within reason and when appropriate) in front of the camera. i don’t think your stud card will be taken away if u smile. i know many of u got some pretty ones, don’t b stingy. share it. besides, it’ll add variety 2 your portfolio.

DON’T: think you have it all figured out. when it comes to posing, chances are you’re going to have to practice.

hope this list helps u up and coming stud models. I wanna c great pics…

p.s. oh yeah, one last one. if u’r not doing an updated artistic take on Rodin’s The Thinker, the whole hand-on-the-chin pose is so played out, y’all. that’s a Hard Candy DON’T. i’m tired of that one.

Good Monday everyone!

The topic for the week is models and modeling.

I spoke 2 someone last nite who is interested in being in the Hard Candy Calendar. She, like many others, told me that she was not a model. I get that a lot. In fact, MOST of the womyn in the Hard Candy Calendar have never modeled before and don’t plan on taking up modeling as a career. So why r they doing this project? For one thing, cuz they can! And that’s the perfect woman for Hard Candy.

I also get asked about what my requirements are for models. I don’t personally have any. However, a woman who believes in the cause and wants to help is ideal. Hard Candy Calendar has never turned a volunteer model away. Well, that’s a lie. We did once many years ago when we found out a gyrl was underage. We told her to call us back when she turned 18. But other than that, if u want 2 model, u can.

Volunteering to model for a charity makes u deserving of having your picture taken for all 2 c. U are showing the world that u are more than 2 dimensional. Sure, the beautiful ones come out 2 show us what they got. I ain’t mad at them. Sure, everyone cares about what they wear and how they’re presented. That’s how it should be. But that takes a back seat to who a person really is. I ask that all the models bring themselves first. Be yourself and present yourself at your best. Because it’s all about u. “Bringing the Dominant Woman to the Forefront” is our motto and main objective.

By making an effort to be a part of something that matters automatically makes u a model. A role model. You’re about something and making moves. You’re a success at whatever it is that u do. You are a leader and not a follower. A trendsetter. A free thinker. A queen. So relax it’s time 4 u 2 shine!

inspiration.

i’ve said b4 and i’ll say it a million times more that my gyrl is the inspiration behind the Hard Candy Calendar project. but she isn’t the only source of inspiration. the world is my inspiration. a great song can force me 2 c things that i never seen b4. a gorgeous movie can make me write a poem. the smell of cookies makes me wanna dance. u know that happy dance that little kids do. singing “i’m gon get some coooookieess!” yeah. that’s inspiration. anything that causes a show of self expression is inspiration. a musician on the street makes me wanna write a screenplay. a piece of garbage blowing in the wind makes me want 2 step up 2 a podium and make a speech. inspired, i am. but u know what inspires me the most? people doing stuff.

LOL i know that sounds incredibly simple. almost stupid. but look around u. there are soo many people not doing a damn thing with themselves. nothing. y’all see them in your family. or maybe one or two of your friends. only one or two tho. cuz if u got more friends than that who aren’t about anything, then chances are u aren’t either. i’m just saying like attracts.

i have been fortunate 2 b inspired by people who are doing all kinds of things. from the grand (writing, directing a producing a movie), to the sublime (counseling cancer patients), to the pure (spending every week caring for grandparents). doing something, anything, with yourself is not an impossible task. nor is it a requirement in life. that’s why it’s such a big deal 2 me. just like Joe Clark said, “all i gotta do is stay black and die”. some people have taken that to heart. so the ones that step way from that and decide to write a poem. or spend extra time tending to their garden, i can’t help but notice.

Nike has the best slogan in the world. Just Do It. beautiful in its simplicity. full of power. dynamic. and inspiring.

so y’all know what i do. what do u do? inspire me.

the other day i got a note asking 4 advice about studs. sure, i am the self proclaimed #1 stud lover but i never thought that it made me an expert. or does it?

hmmmmm….. like the famous zoologist, Dian Fossey studying her gorillas, i study the stud. i hang out with them, photographing them and even chose one 2 live with so that i might observe her in her natural habitat. the elusive studicus urbanus is easy 2 snare (given that they are prone 2 becoming mesmorized by round asses and shiny lips) yet they are extremely difficult to keep in captivity. can these wild beasts be contained, tamed and kept as domestic pets? i have been successfully holding one and have affectionaely named her ‘D’. training her for the past seven years in the ways of the human woman. it’s been a long and arduous journey but has yeilded some great results.

i have yet 2 know all of the stud species: the tomboyus musculus, the androgynopod principalis and the butchtica are just a few. i realize that i have many more years of study ahead of me. Dian lived with the gorillas for 18 years. i’ve only had a few and i’ve yet to scratch the surface of this mysterious bunch. i push on. i should be starting a thesis or something, right? LOL

but seriously tho, i have gotten many notes and emails over the years from many of these type of womyn thanking me 4 my project. many that have said that they had no idea that they could’ve been models. they are encouraged 2 pursure a career that they thought was off limits 2 them.

these letters encourage me to keep going. keep studying, keep photographing and to keep creating. thanx ladies. you are my sisters. this is about you. and i won’t stop doin it.

today’s feeling is liberation. i notice that folks are still in chains. slaves to materialism. slaves to society. slaves to drama. slaves to the television. slaves to facebook. slaves to fashion. slaves to sex. slaves to food. slaves to hair pieces. slaves to misery. slaves to love. slaves. let’s break them chains. lt’s unloose ourselves. find something that liberates you. something that doesn’t allow u 2 b bogged down by the bullshyt. 4 me it’s art. what is it 4 u? what elevates u beyond this earthly madness?

After Further Reflection…
My gyrl Jenn started Hard Candy Calendar as a means to contribute to the care of those confronted with this life-threatening disease. The calendar's intent was to feature the type of woman she found attractive, but rarely seen in a complementary light. When Jenn initially introduced the concept of Hard Candy Calendar to the community, it was received with some reservation. The project had some difficult but enlightnening growing pains in the earliest days of its conception. The challenges faced served as lessons, offering insight, and further fueled the determination to persevere.

I have always had to fight..fight for space in my mother's womb..fight to be seen as one, not two..fight to come out at fifteen..fight to express my talents creatively..fight fear..fight love..fight to just be..me..
Now I live confidently...

Hard Candy Calendar has produced beyond our wildest dreams. Our models have been featured on stage, in films and on the runway. The pathway that HC models have tread is truly making an endellible mark on our community. What began as merely an artistic expression with a charitable intent has created a space where dominant women are presented beautifully and authentically.

And after further reflection, I am celebrating seven years of healing now.. I actually finished my final treatments in June 2003. I guess last year was about celebrating the lessons of the process..this year..this year is just a celebration. I made a movie , "Genderblind", that features gyrls like me. One of our original and most influential models, Milon is now seasoned and has recently completed a highly successful runway show where she created an avenue to showcase LGBT community during Black Pride at a historic location, the DuSable Museum of African American History. Our own Brandee Young has been recently signed as a full-figured model. It is magnificent to see Jen's strange fruit, Hard Candy, take root and give seed to so much more than its original intent. It's all about growth... this is the Rise of the Stud. The Future is now.

Upon celebrating the seventh year of surviving the battle for my life, I feel healed..
We've made stars and had stripes..It is a revolution..gyrls like me are seen as we truly are..shining honestly..living free..

What's next... iono... enjoying the liberation..embracing the infinite possibilitites ...

Danielle Jones is currently starring in the movie Genderblind which is set to have it’s Atlanta GA premier September 4th, 2010

sorry 4 the long silence. i’ve been overwhelmed these last days. full of every emotion under the rainbow.
because of that, i’m gonna dedicate this week to the emotions associated with this project. today is motivated. is that an emotion? yeah!

this past Sunday, Hard Candy Calendar had it’s first meet & greet for the models for the upcoming 2011 calendar. in our conversations, we got the basics: name. age. zodiac sign. but then the question was asked: “what’s your story?” we learned of students, actresses, models (of course), corrections officers and artists. then these beautiful womyn shared themselves and their stories of their connection with the Hard Candy cause: breast cancer. they spoke of family members, lovers and even first hand experience of surviving the disease. the entire meet was then transformed into a meeting of spirits. i became even more inspired, even more encouraged and even more motivated to work on this project. i must confess with my personal stresses, my motivation got a little muddy. over the years in talking about the project, i’ve presented numerous reasons for putting the calendar together. each year i added a new reason. but this year got a little dark. rumours and hate, money concerns, death and illness sent me 2 a bad place and i couldn’t create. my artistic vision became invisible. it was still there, i just couldn’t see it anymore. i was paralyzed by negativity. the project moved forward (thanx 2 Brandee) even as i stalled and held back. then the Universe stepped in (as always) and sent an amazing group of womyn 2 help me with my latest journey. i couldn’t believe how blessed i was to have these beautiful souls come together for this project.

in the past i never bothered to ask the models why they wanted 2 b a part of the calendar until this year. well, actually that was my faithful assistant’s idea (thanx Brandee, again). it’s not that i never cared b4, i just didn’t think so many would share my passion. actually, i just didn’t think. and because i didn’t think, we lost our reason for doing it last year. lost that focus. what was our motivation? was it just something to do? i didn’t realize the malaise that i had fallen into until i met these 2011 Future Studs (and femmes;)

my motivation has returned in full force. now i’m overflowing, almost overwhelmed with motivation and determination. i want so badly 2 serve these womyn well and present them in a way that truly represents their real beauty, grace and strength. they are fun, thoughtful, intelligent and creative bunch and i look forward to bringing our energies together to create another year of celebrating the stud.

Hard Candy is here for all the womyn who have been touched by breast cancer. we always have been and always will be. i can’t wait 2 start shooting these womyn. i am motivated 2 create this calendar by the battle with breast cancer. what’s your motivation 4 doin what u do?

Ok, i’m offically sick of the labels thing. Yeah, i tried 2 beat the dead horse til it rose again and then kill it once more. i think i succeeded. so to wrap up labels week, i got a couple of quizzes for ya. if u’r bored, curious, tryin 2 waste time or simply can’t get enough of being labeled! LOL

Are You Femme Butch or Androgyn:

this quiz asks 10 simple questions that round up your entire self and then informs u of what u already know. duh!

Butch? or Femme?

simple name for a not so simple test. this one is more in depth. has 100 questions that pose insane hypotheticals, obvious stereotypes, and intriguing personality observations. some of the questions will have u wondering “what the hell does this have to do with my sexuality?!” yet at the same time cause u 2 stop and think about what it is specifically the type of road u like 2 walk on. there are literary questions. food questions. the quiz asks u about habits and routines. oh yeah and question 61. asks which snack are u. hard candy was my answer. ha!

if u’r like me all of these random questions could actually fascinate you. at some point u forget about the ’stud/femme’ thing and think about the ‘you’ thing. what exactly is it that makes me..’me’.

then u get to the end of the long ass quiz and u’r reminded that it’s about another label. but this isn’t so bad. it comes with numbers, stats, explanations and there’s even a chart! i like the more indepth discussion this quiz provides. it is far more accurate description than any quiz that i’ve taken but it still has 2 give u a label in order to give u an explanation. oh well, i think we’re stuck with them y’all.

p.s. in case anyone is interested here’s what my score said and it is me exactly:

SOFT ANDROGYNE
Your score placed you in the category of Soft Androgyne. This is the “steel magnolia” type. You may also wish to review Strong Femme and Androgyne, the two categories surrounding you. In a ranking across the femme/butch gamut, if 1 is femme and 100 is butch, you fall between 41 and 47 on the scale. For a review of where you fall in the overall population in numbers, refer to this chart. Your group is a large part of the 35-45 age group for the most part and has a wide mix of genders and orientations.

——————————————————————————–

For most of your life and social interaction, you don’t really see yourself as either butch or femme, but if pressed into a corner, you react more femme than butch. You prefer to seek aid rather than solve your problems on your own, and prefer to give aid rather than to encourage someone to stand on their own feet. You’re fairly well balanced over all, with the occasional weakness you haven’t quite yet conquered.

Education is important to you, as you see knowledge as a key to independence and freedom, and you tend to have a higher educational level than your peers, either formally or by self-teaching. You read a lot, and a varied assortment of genres, enjoying cartoons as much as heavy psych drama. Biography, however, bores you. You like historical anecdotes but are not very good at memorizing dates, having a more general sense of time.

Your home is a roof for you and not a showplace. Order is optional. You cook if you have to and are efficient at it but really don’t like to bother. You prefer to be fed. You like small dogs or big cats and the occasional hamster.

You enjoy a fairly strong butch for a partner, along the lines of a Feminist or Classic Butch, and take on other Androgynes as friends. Family is not terribly important to you, and odds are good you came from a home where that was not the primary issue. You may have a good, but distant relation with your family, or may not be in touch at all, but it’s pretty certain you don’t live with them unless you have to, or in the same city.

folks still talkin about labeling? yup. i didn’t lie when i said i was gon beat this dead horse… i’m a woman of my word and i’m doin it all week. LOL

so i found this old list of “Dyke Categories”. i’m sure u all have seen it. it’s been around for years. back when i first saw it, i thought it was amusing. interesting even. but now that i’ve put a lot more thought n2 the topic, i see this list and think… “fo’ real?!”…. “ridiculous” hell, no one even uses these terms. ever! then again, the list was compiled by one person. none of terms on the list is any way a social norm. or maybe i’m wrong. tell me if y’all use these labels.

but regardless of what i think, it still counts as another example of the boxes that people try 2 put us in. check this list out.

I. “touch me not” Butch/Stud

This is usually the type of dyke that has gender identity disorder(she thinks and wants to be a man). She takes on the very dominant role in relationships, the male role to be exact. She dresses like a man and acts like a man. There is nothing feminine about her. She is sometimes more of a man than some men. In bed she will only want to make love to her women with a strap on. She will not want women to touch her breast, or her vagina, go down on her or provide her with any type of pleasure. She wants to do all the pleasuring. She does not want women to touch her breast etc, because it reminds her that she is a woman.

II. New Age Stud aka Totally Tomboy

She also takes on the dominant role in the relationship. She does not mind her fem touching her body, giving her head etc. She likes to be pleasured in bed by her women. She however is the dominant party in bed and is usually if not always, on top. She will use a strap-on occassionally in bed, but it is not necessary to love making. She can either dress very masculine, or she can sometimes be androgenous. On rare occassions or if she has to (like meeting the parents for the first time) she can go femme for short periods.

III. Fem-Stud

This is the type of dyke that is very dominant and is all boy in her thinking. She however has no problem rocking a short tight hairdo that would make a femme jealous. Or she could wear it long. She will usually wear baggy clothes and dress boy on the street, but she will do the femme thing occassionally. These are the type of studs that rule Coperate America. She will throw on a Jones of New York suit like its nothing, but still have a unmistakably boy edge. She is so fly that even men are drawn to her charms, even though she is very obviously gay. She is very similar to the New Age Stud in bed.

IV. Pseudo stud aka the “I wish I was hard” stud

This is the type of stud that is a pretender. She is hard on the street, around her boyz and femmes that she is not dating. When she goes home to her femme, however, she drops the facade. Her girl takes control and may even dominate her in bed. She may even allow her girl to use a strap-on with her. Her girl may sometimes wonder who the femme really is in the relationship. This type of stud may also have a secret attraction to fem-studs, new age studs and in some cases butches. A lot of white dykes fall in this category (u see themwalking around holding hands, butch with butch.) On rare cases you see them in the black community. You know the type, where you are constantly wondering who`s the daddy. This is the type of stud that needs to have her stud card revoked!!!

V. Fake Butch

This is usually a femme who wants to attract other femmes by dressing like a Butch/Stud. She will try to
act the hard role, but her heart is not in it. She is only doing it to
attract a femme. When they get into a relationship with a femme, they usually can`t keep up the pretense and eventually femme out.

V1. The Versatile Dyke AKA “the lost somewhere in between” dyke..***New category***

This is thetypeof dyke that constantly keeps the masses guessing…is she a stud, is she a femme? Sometimes when you see her out, she is dressed totally femme, yet other times she does the Tomboy/Soft butch thing. She is attracted to goodlooking butch types, but just as attracted to stunning femmes. She likes what is pleasing to her eye. If she is with a stud, she acts the submissive part and is totally femme (she does not do Tomboys/Soft butches that often, only because they can`t keep her in check like a Butch can). When she is with a femme, she plays the dominant role, and will occassinally do the Soft butch/Tomboy thing, if her girls wants it like that. In bed she can be dominant or submissive, whatever she is called on to be. But don`t be mislead by this one, homegirl can work a strap-on or her tongue as well as any butch/tomboy can.

NOW TO DO YOU FEMMES

I. Pillow Princess or Ultra Femme

This is the type that usually gets with a “touch me not” Butch/Stud. She is used to being taken care of by her butch. She is also used to being pleasured totally in bed. She will not give her women head (because she does notknow how, or never has had to learn how.) She will treat her butch like a woman would treat a man. Their roles are old fashioned and rigid.

II. New Age femme

She is all woman and very feminine. She will however like to play an active role in the bedroom. She will enjoy pleasuring her woman, and especially like to give her head. She will usually get with a “touch me not” butch and be unhappy, or get with a new age Stud/Fem-stud and be satisfied totally. She will also mess around with femmes ocassionally,
for the sexual gratification, and to be able to explore her like a Butch or a Tomboy won`t allow. She however won`t be able to form long lasting relationships with femmes, because she loves the dominance of a Butch or a Tomboy.

III. Dominant/Aggressive femme

She will dress and act totally feminine. She will however be very dominant. She willonly date feminine women, and will usually take on the dominant role in sex. This category of femme also occassionaly do the fake butch thing.

New Category****and a lil` something for you bi-sexual women that hit me up asking about where you fit in..

1. True Bi-sexual

This is a woman that can form meaningful relationships with both sexes. When she is with a woman, she is with her, and fits totally intothe gay world with no problems. When she is with a man, she fits totally into the straight world, and totally loves him. She is not really confused, she just falls in love with a person and not a gender. She usually prefers sex with women, but some can enjoy both equally. She is usually attracted to stud/tomboy types but may have a lot of problems in the relationship, because of the stud`s/tomboy`s fear that she is not true to the game, and will eventually go back to men. Sexually she is usually aggressive in bed.

11. Fake bi-sexual

This is the type of woman that most of us lesbians hate to deal with. This is the type of woman that is not really bi-sexual, she is just having sex with a woman for the “freak factor.” In other words she is just freaky in bed, and that is all it is to her “just being freaky.” She will usually have a boyfriend and want him to join in on the fun. Though sometimes, if their man is cool with it, they will have sex one on one with a woman. These are the type of aggravating h@es that hit your page up asking if you are down for a threesome. Or have personal ads asking for threesomes. These are also the women on Bp who put on their page “I already got a man..just looking for a feminine female friend…so men don`t respond.” A lot of the time they are just having sex with a woman to please their man. They are mostly only attracted to femme women, because this is the only type of woman that their man will allow in the bedroom. Also they are just doing it for sex, so they want a woman that looks and acts like a woman. This is thetype of woman that most of us “real dykes” run from. She will usually date other fake- bisexual women, or luck up and get with a bi-curious woman and turn her off or on, to sex with other women.

gaydar is evidence that gay is intrinsic. it’s an energy that can’t be hidden…or ignored. u r what u r and people sense it even if they can’t see it. u feel it. even a child knows when someone is gay.

so for shits and giggles, i gathered a small list of celebs that set of my stud-dar. their swagger is so thick that i just can’t help but think “what if…”. now, i must say that i respect people’s personal space with regards 2 their sexuality. so this piece is in no way accusing or outing anyone. it’s just a feeling that I get. maybe others share the feelings. maybe not. following is my list of maybe studs. now mind u, this is based on the most basic stereotypes of what studs are as well as gut intuition..

THE OBVIOUS: Queen Latifah
she’s not a delicate flower and definitely not 2 b fucked with. her rap put ladies first and her role in Set It Off pretty much solidified everyone’s suspicion. she’d pretty much have 2 get married (2 a man) and pop out a couple o’ babies 2 convince anyone otherwise. and even still, i’m sure many would just accuse her of being in denial. she’s clearly standing in a glass closet.

RUNNERS UP: Da Brat, Missy Elliot & MC Lyte.<the genre of music itself seems to require a bit of hardness aboutcha. as a woman, if u’r not rapping about how ill your na na is then u’r automatically put into the “masculine” category. i sometimes think that’s why some female rappers are so over sexualized. just over compensating. but that’s another conversation 4 another blog. anyway, these three tried 2 rectify their image dilemma by slapping lipstick on their not so feminine appearances. but all it did was sort of produce a drag affect. with Da Brat and her woman problems, Missy and her “dancers” that follow her around wherever she goes (y’all remember that? on her Road to Stardom show?) and MC Lyte who stays under the radar, it’s easy 2 believe that these three dominate the ladies behind closed doors as much as they dominated the rap game.

SIMPLE: Peppermint Patty
i know. she’s a cartoon. but still. with her Birkenstocks and what i’m sure are clothes made of hemp, she is representing the hippy side of the butch spectrum. and her gyrlfriend…er… sidekick Marcie calling her “sir” all the time doesn’t help. sometimes she acted like she liked Chuck but i think he was just her homie.

LONG SHOTS: Alicia Keys and Jada Pinkette
meh, iono. something about these two…. they could be tombois or maybe super aggressive femmes. but i definitely and picking up some studish vibes. their physical softness competes with their dominant personalities. when Keys first hit the scene, i distinctly heard her say on David Letterman that she don’t do skirts and wouldn’t. i thought that was great. and not cuz i’m the self proclaimed #1 stud lover but i thought it was refreshing 2 see a woman being different from the rest and doing her thang. well, someone straightened that shit out. didn’t they? or maybe she grew up. *shrug*
and Jada. she had me at ‘hello’ as the too rough around the edges Lena on a Different World. yeah, these two are up in the air for me. i know what i see and i know what i hear and that’s my lez alarm ringing in my ears.

WAITING 4 THE ANNOUNCEMENT Michelle Rodriguez Just see this chick in Girlfight, Avatar and Swat. enough said.

I WISH Laila Ali lookin like a slightly softer version of her daddy only with a slightly deeper voice. this pugilist could knock any woman over without throwing a punch. her swagger shines thru the pumps and blush she wears. i’m actually quite sure she’s not gay. but dammit, she could front and none would b the wiser.

maybe I have an over active imagination. maybe my stud-dar is off. or maybe they’re studs..
