Lesbian sgt. discharged after police tell military
By TIMBERLY ROSS, Associated Press Writer Timberly Ross, Associated Press Writer – Sat Mar 13, 6:32 pm ET
Jene Newsome played by the rules as an Air Force sergeant: She never told anyone in the military she was a lesbian. The 28-year-old's honorable discharge under the "don't ask, don't tell" policy came only after police officers in Rapid City, S.D., saw an Iowa marriage
One Step Forward, Two Steps Back
For those who don't know, you can now get married in D.C.! yay for the gays. It became official this past Tuesday and while the turnout wasn't as spectacular in numbers as it was in California, it wasn't any less significant. But my favourite part of it is that we're seeing black couples get married. not a big deal u say? well everytime someone speaks of blacks and gays
Sarah Emma Edmonds aka Frank Thompson
once again, this historic piece really isn't about ones sexuality. i'm just reporting and making observations. seems 2 me that if one wants 2 do battle they have 2 do it as a man. and while we are not necessarily in a war on a day 2 day basis, i do see my studs as soldiers that go out in uniform every day and challenge society. they fight for
Cathay Williams: Buffalo Soldier
while it is not my practice to ASSume someone's sexuality. i am intrigued by this bit of history i recently learned. by posting this piece, i am in no way saying that this woman was or was not gay. but as it stands. baby did the damn thing and she did it in men's clothing.
Cathay Williams was born in 1842 outside Independence, Missouri. Born into slavery she served as
Gladys Bentley: A Stud to Remember
Gladys Bentley was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on August 12, 1907. Like many African Americans of her generation she ended up in New York Citys' Harlem , the capital of "The New Negro ". For Gladys , her lesbianism made her need to strike out on her own all the more urgent. As she would recall many years later in an Ebony Magazine Article , “It seems I was
Long Lost Femme
The stud calendar is a celebration of the dominant woman, it would b nothing without the assistance of the femmes. they had that extra little something that balances out our studs.
as u all know the back of the wall calendar features a pic with all the femmes of the 2010 calendar. what some don't notice is that one is missing. Brandee.
she's the lady supporting our Virgo stud.
Red Light Special
Valentine's Day is almost upon us. A time of love, lust and chocolate. Well for some, at least. Others would rather just say "F you, Cupid and the horse u rode in on!" Either way, Hard Candy wishes u well. LOL
There are free valentine's day e-cards on the Stuff page of the site.
As a special treat we have some additional photos from this years shoots on the
Small But Significant
i ran across a heated debate online about reggie bush on the cover of Essence magazine. i really didn't have a dog in that fight so i merely observed. as a result, when i ran across the magazine on someone's table. i picked it up 2 c what all the hubbub was about. i never found out but did run across a page on relationships. and way down in
Congrats Mo’Nique and Thank U
congratulations to Mo’nique for her golden globe. i was late in seeing the movie Precious. in fact, i just saw it the day before yesterday. i’ve been singing her praises ever since.
prior 2 seeing it, i had been hearing and participating in a lot of conversations with people condemning the movie for its subject matter. some didn’t want to put that image of black folks
Accurate Representation
One of my main reasons 4 producing the Hard Candy Stud Calendar was 2 represent the under-represented. dominant womyn. not necessarily an easy task cuz y'all know that studs are like a box of chocolates. such a wide variety so i let fate decide who would get shown in the calendar. i let the models choose me. i simply put the word out and whoever showed up got a shot.
